The Langtang Valley Trek is the closest Himalayan trekking destination to Kathmandu. Despite its proximity to the capital, it remains an “off-the-beaten-path” experience compared to Everest or Annapurna. You will trek through the heart of Langtang National Park, witness the resilience of the local Tamang communities, and stand surrounded by 7,000-meter peaks.

Day 1 :

Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (Drive)

Altitude: 1,350m to 1,500m
Description & Attractions: Your journey starts with a scenic and winding drive out of the Kathmandu Valley. You’ll head north, following the Trishuli River and passing through the entrance of Langtang National Park at Dhunche. The drive offers glimpses of rural life, terraced hillsides, and cascading waterfalls. You’ll spend the night in the riverside town of Syabrubesi, resting up for the first day of trekking.

Day 2 :

Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel

Altitude: 1,500m to 2,480m
Description & Attractions: Today’s trek follows the Langtang Khola (river) through a dense, subtropical forest. You’ll cross several suspension bridges and climb steady stone switchbacks. Keep an eye out for local wildlife. This area is home to the Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, and various species of monkeys. The sound of the rushing river accompanies you all the way to the jungle clearing of Lama Hotel.

Day 3 :

Lama Hotel to Langtang Village

Altitude: 2,480m to 3,430m
Description & Attractions: As you continue your ascent, the valley opens up, and the views of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) become spectacular. You will pass through Ghoda Tabela (the "Horse Stable"), where the landscape transitions into high-altitude alpine forest. You will eventually reach the rebuilt Langtang Village, a poignant reminder of the area's resilience, surrounded by traditional stone walls and grazing yaks.

Day 4 :

Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa & Hike to Kyanjin Ri

Altitude: 3,430m to 3,870m (Gompa) | 4,300m (Kyanjin Ri)
Description & Attractions: A shorter but highly scenic walk leads you to Kyanjin Gompa, the final permanent settlement in the valley. After lunch, you’ll take a late-afternoon acclimatization hike up to Kyanjin Ri. From this viewpoint, you are rewarded with a 360-degree vista of the Langtang peaks, the massive Kimshung Glacier, and the surrounding icefalls. Don't forget to visit the famous local yak cheese factory back in the village!

Day 5 :

Hike to Tserko Ri

Altitude: 3,870m to 4,984m (Summit)
Description & Attractions: Today is the physical highlight of the trek. You will embark on a challenging hike to the top of Tserko Ri, the highest point of the journey. The climb is steep, but the reward is unparalleled: a breathtaking panoramic view of over 20 peaks, including Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, and even views stretching into Tibet. The silence and vastness at the summit are truly humbling. You’ll return to Kyanjin Gompa for a well-deserved night of sleep.

Day 6 :

Hike to Lama Hotel

Altitude: 3,870m down to 2,480m
Description & Attractions: It’s time to say goodbye to the high peaks as you begin your descent. Because you are heading downhill, the walking is much faster and easier on the lungs. You will retrace your steps back through Langtang Village and Ghoda Tabela, descending through the beautiful rhododendron and pine forests until you reach the familiar, cozy atmosphere of Lama Hotel.

Day 7 :

Hike to Syabrubesi

Altitude: 2,480m down to 1,500m
Description & Attractions: Your final day on the trail follows the river back down to the valley floor. The air becomes warmer and thicker as you descend. You’ll enjoy a final walk through the lush greenery, crossing the suspension bridges one last time before
arriving back in Syabrubesi. This is the perfect evening to enjoy a "Farewell Dinner" with your trekking crew to celebrate your successful journey.

Day 08 :

Syabrubesi back to Kathmandu (Drive)

Altitude: 1,500m to 1,350m
Description & Attractions: After breakfast, you’ll board your vehicle for the return drive to Kathmandu. Use this time to look back at the mountains one last time and reflect on your adventure. You will arrive in the city by late afternoon, where you can head back to your hotel for a long-awaited hot shower and a celebratory evening in Thamel.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

Is there electricity and Wi-Fi on the trail?

Most teahouses have electricity for charging devices and offer Wi-Fi for a small additional fee. Please note that the connection can be unstable in higher elevations.
